A Day of Remembrance and Solidarity hosted by the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), The Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP), Beth Shalom Synagogue, Holy Cross Hospital, and the Ephraim Bahar Cultural Center, brought together local and state leaders to the steps of St. Rita Church on Chicago's south side to commemorate the loss of life on September 11, 2001, and in subsequent years, from victims and first responders, to soldiers and innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. These leaders also denounced any attempt to use 9/11 as a foundation to scapegoat, penalize, or unjustly target any sector of our communities. Finally, leaders expressed appreciation for the impact that American Muslims, alongside other faith communities, are making on a local, grassroots level.
